DECADES of service to Ledbury Cottage Hospital has been recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours List, with the award of an MBE to William Masefield.
Mr Masefield, a nephew of the former Poet Laureate John Masefield, has been chairman of the Friends of Ledbury Hospital since it was formed almost 50 years ago. Under his hand the body has raised significant sums for the hospital.
Mr Masefield is a familiar figure in Ledbury, as a solicitor and a former clerk to the magistrates. He previously served as a president of Ledbury Rotary Club, chairman of governors at John Masefield High School and is a past president and chairman of Ledbury Rugby Club.
