THE Malvern Gazette 25 years ago recorded the sad demise of an 80ft cedar in Priory Park deemed a danger to the public and nearby buildings.
An inspection showed the tree was being held up by only a quarter of its original root system.
Tree surgeon Roy Finch was called in and cut down it down in less than 30 minutes. A post-mortem examination revealed the tree had suffered damage in 1923 and did not start to grow properly again until 1953, by which time decay had set in.
