A SIX-a-side football team from Aston Fields Middle School has been crowned Worcestershire county champions after winning a nail-biting penalty shoot-out.

The team, from the Drummond Road school, defeated Droitwich Spa's Witton Middle School 3-2 on penalties at Kidderminster Harriers' Aggborough Stadium on Saturday, December 14.

After falling behind early in the first half, Joe Kings grabbed a last gasp equaliser from 15 yards to send the game into extra time.

No further goals were scored so it needed Kings, Tom Keogh and Gavin Forbes to send their school to victory from the spot.

The team, who play together for Hanbury U11s, now face eight other sides at a Midlands area tournament at Derby County's Pride Park in March.

The winners in Derby will play a southern area event, the champions of which will join their northern counterparts at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

In addition to the winners medals, the players also won football equipment for Aston Fields Middle School.

Teacher Andrew Kilbride said: "They are doing very well. They are a talented bunch but they have a good attitude, they listen and take on advice."
