DEFENDER Scott Stamps has spoken of his frustration at starting the New Year on Kidderminster Harriers' casualty list.

The 27-year-old admits to feeling left out in the cold following an operation on a groin injury which he sustained in Harriers' 3-2 LDV Vans Trophy victory over Second Division Swindon Town at Aggborough on November 12.

He is now aiming to step up his battle for fitness in an effort to get back into action earlier than anticipated.

The former Torquay and Colchester campaigner said: "I have been told it could be anything up to three months before I will be back and ready, but I aim to try and get back sooner.

"It was a nasty operation and I was left with about ten staples in my leg which were eventually removed."

Stamps has now cast aside his crutches and is looking to get into a full rehabilitation programme as quickly as possible.

"It will be like pre-season all over again for me," said Smethwick-based Stamps, whose current lay-off is the longest of his career.

He added: "In the past I've smashed my cheekbone, had a double hernia operation and a minor knee injury, but I was back in action against within six weeks.

"If feel frustrated when I see the lads going off to training knowing I can get involved."

Harriers' other long term injury victim utility player Adie Smith is making good progress following an ankle operation.

No date has yet been set for his return to action.
