A FATHER-of-four from Dines Green has been called up to fight in an historic battle.

It is not The Gulf beckoning David Walker, but a world record-breaking re-enactment in the United States later this month.

Mr Walker, of Tudor Way, will be donning his combat gear to take part in The Battle of the Bulge, being re-enacted at Fort Indian Town's Gap, Pennsylvania.

The 39-year-old, who works at Reality in Worcester, will be among more than 1,000 enthusiasts from around the world taking part in the Second World War re-enactment.

All the soldiers will be dressed in period uniform and the original armoury will be used, along with tanks and planes including Messerschmitts.

"I am really looking forward to the re-enactment of a battle that was among the decisive ones of the war," said Mr Walker, who is a member of the World War Two Historical Society, based at Severn Valley Railway, Kidderminster.

"I have been interested in history, and for 23 years I was involved in re-enactments of the American Civil War. For the past six years I have taken part in Second World War battles.

"My eldest son, Wayne, is also developing an interest in it and has accompanied me to some of the events.

"It was during the 50th anniversary of the Normandy landings that I met Greg Bondurant, who had been in the US Navy, and I will be staying with him during my visit to the States.

"He is also taking part in the battle, so I will be fighting in his US unit which is the 30th Infantry Division, The Old Hickorians, based in Virginia.

"During the event, which will be the biggest ever staged anywhere in the world, I am hoping to make a lot of new friends."
