ONE of the most senior citizens in Worcestershire will be celebrating her 105th birthday on Saturday.

Retired dressmaker Beatrice Richards, who moved to Kidderminster 17 years ago from her native Black Country, was born in the reign of Queen Victoria.

Daughter Daphne Knight, of Comberton Court, Kidderminster, said her mother's healthy lifestyle had kept her alive for so long.

"My mum would say her secret to long life would be down to her clean living," she said.

"She has never had a drink of alcohol and she has never smoked. She also did a lot of walking."

"Mother doesn't do a lot now but I can still take her out shopping or for a coffee somewhere."

Mrs Richards, of Holmwood Care Centre, on the town's Comberton Road, is a mother of two, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of seven.

She will be marking her birthday with a family lunch.
