It is with regret that I report the death of the Reverend Frederick John Archer, late of Staunton, who died in hospital in Coventry on Sunday, December 29 at the age of 96. He had been in failing health for some time. Mr Archer was rector of Staunton & Corse from 1961 until his retirement in 1976. Upon retirement he and his late wife Eva continued to live in Staunton having bought the School House and old school. They gave the school to Staunton Parochial Church Council for use as a church hall. Some years after the death of his wife he eventually moved to Johnstone Close flats where he enjoyed life and for some years following his retirement he conducted services at the neighbouring village of Redmarley where his services were very much appreciated. Our sympathy is extended to his son David and daughter Margaret and their families. The funeral takes place at Corse Parish Church tomorrow at noon.
