Severn Trent is about to launch a £2.5 million project to replace parts of Malvern's ageing sewerage system.

The first stage of the project will last around ten weeks, with the full programme not expected to be finished until March next year.

Como Road closed this week and will stay closed for around three weeks, according to Severn Trent spokeswoman Caroline Hosie.

It will be followed by the closure of Clarence Road, from the junction with Priory Road to the junction of Tibberton Road. Work there is also expected to last three weeks. Then the firm will close Priory Road, from the Clarence Road junction to Avenue Road, for around two weeks.

"This is not set in stone, it depends on how the work goes but we will let local residents know," said Ms Hosie.

Letters have already gone out to residents likely to be affected by the closures and the company says it is willing to discuss issues like access to frontages.

Ms Hosie said parts of the sewerage system in Malvern are around 100 years old.

"Some of it has come to the end of its life and is in danger of collapse. This is essential work we need to do," she said.
