Members of the public who attended the MHDC planning committee meeting on the Upton Marina development, will have been astonished at the New Year message from Coun Mary Wilkinson.
Her fine words for 2003 hardly match her public support for the huge marina and holiday village development.
Recognising that recent MHDC surveys have shown how highly local residents regard their rural surroundings, she continues: "I can think of nothing better than that we all try to ensure we keep what we have - the beauty of this middle England, Worcestershire".
The residents of Holly Green and Ryall would wish she had made this speech at the planning meeting, rather than extolling a £3.5 million development in our countryside.
The words of the Bishop of Worcester in his New Year message on "the imprudence greed can lead us into" struck an appropriate note when considering the remarks of Coun Wilkinson.
