CRADLEY residents have continued their campaign to keep the Crown as a village pub, presenting a 758-signature petition to two Herefordshire councillors on Monday, January 6.
The grade two listed building, a traditional pub until 15 years ago, is under threat of closing permanently as its owner has applied for planning permission to turn it into a housing development.
Roy Stockton and Rees Mills, Herefordshire councillors for Hope End, accepted the petition and a report to Herefordshire planning outlining reasons to keep the building as a public house.
Cradley resident Kath Munroyd, who said she remembered the Crown as a centre of village life, presented the documents on behalf of pressure group the Cradley Crown Crusaders.
Herefordshire County Council planning officer Kevin Bishop said that if the application did go before a planning committee it would be on Wednesday, March 5 but it was likely to be dealt with by officers under delegated powers.
