FILM buffs should get their diaries out ready of the latest season of movies at Malvern's Forum.

The season is a concept which over the last few years has become a regular fixture in the Malvern Theatres calendar.

It was originally made possible by the installation, a few years ago, of state-of-the-art projection equipment at the Forum. Since then, discerning cinemagoers have been able to enjoy a range of movies much wider than the average commercial picture-house can offer.

The spring season opens on February 12 with My Kingdom (18), starring Richard Harris, who died in October. Harris is best known recently for his role in the Harry Potter films, but in My Kingdom he is ageing gang boss Sandeman, whose Liverpool crime empire falls apart after his wife's murder. The film is described as a "stunning contemporary take on King Lear and boasts a "towering central performance" from Harris. It also stars Lynn Redgrave, Tom Bell and Paul McGann.

Lost In La Mancha (15), showing on February 19, tells the true story of director Terry (Brazil, The Fisher King) Gilliam and his attempt to film Cervantes's Don Quixote. Bringing a whole new meaning to the term "disaster movie", Lost In La Mancha shows the production falling behind schedule and going over budget - and that was before floods destroyed the equipment and the leading actor was struck down with illness.

Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine (15) (February 26) takes a hard look at the USA's love affair with firearms in the wake of the Columbine school massacre.

Winner of awards at Cannes, documentary San Sebastian and Toronto, features figures as diverse as Charlton Heston and Marilyn Manson.

The King Is Dancing/Le Roi Danse (15) is a sumptuous costume drama set in the court of Louis XIV, which is rife with tension between the poet Moliere and composer Lully, who are battling for the king's affections. It's showing on March 5.

Pedro Almodovar, Spanish director of such favourites as Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! and All About My Mother returns with Talk To Her/Hable con Ella (15) on March 19.

It's the story of two men who fall in love with two different women, yet who find themselves in exactly the same situation, and has been hailed as a "touching, beautifully photographed" film exploring passion and loneliness.

A stunning ensemble cast, including Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert, Emmanuelle Beart and Fanny Ardant appear in Eight Women (15), a tour de force of wit and wisdom in the shape of a murder mystery. Winner of the Silver Berlin Bear for outstanding artistic achievement, it is showing on March 25.

All films are on Wednesdays at 8.15pm. Tickets are £4 (£3 concessions) on 01684 892277.
