A CONTROVERSIAL plan to demolish Powick's New Hing Tai restaurant and build 13 new homes on the site is likely to be given planning approval tonight.

The development will include three separate buildings containing one, two and three-bedroom units, designed to reflect characteristics of nearby houses.

Powick Parish Council has objected that it will be over-development and there have been objections from residents that it will put pressure on local services and will overlook neighbouring properties.

But Malvern Hills planning officers say it will make efficient use of previously developed land and accords with national and local planning policy.

They are recommending that planning permission is granted at tonight's meeting of the northern area planning committee.
