TENBURY MP Bill Wiggin is to meet Hereford and Worcester's Chief Fire Officer following local concerns that the review of fire services ordered by the Government could become a smokescreen for cost-cutting and fire station closures.
He said: "We have been pressing the Government to commit itself to targets for reduction in loss of life as a result of modernisation of the fire service. Such targets would ensure that the modernisation agenda does not become a crude cost-cutting exercise, but actually delivers a better, safer service.
"Many local people, as well as firefighters themselves, have expressed concerns about possible closure of fire stations and I shall be representing these public concerns to the Chief Fire Officer."
