INTELLIGENT politicians not only give careful thought to the formulation of policy, but even greater careful thought to the possible outcomes of their policy decisions, before monitoring the implementation of such policies.

I have just read my Advertiser, this week's edition, faithfully reporting as always Antisocial Behaviour Orders on young people, robbery with violence on our streets, indecent assaults by males on males.

My old late friend Mrs Mary Whitehouse CBE said as far back as 1965: 'If you continually portray a violent society on television (now add video, internet and magazines) you will in due course have a violent society.'

She was a very experienced Worcestershire senior comprehensive schoolteacher, mother and grandmother as well as a practising Christian.

Corporate management means a more moral, intelligent and economic utilisation of scarce resources. My impression is that those who pay council tax as well as national direct and indirect taxation are not wildly enthusiastic at a time when statutory and essential public services are starved of funds, at seeing their hard-earned money used to subsidise to the tune of hundreds of thousands of pounds each year, so-called 'entertainment' at the Palace Theatre.

Short-term political popularity as we have seen so many times, can have long term calamitous consequences. Our present moral, social and economic decadence is evidence of that submission.
