REDDITCH have to beat arch rivals Bromsgrove at the weekend to have any chance of winning promotion.

Tom Hiles' side - who blew promotion with a post-Christmas collapse last year - are teetering on the brink again after a 4-1 defeat to league leaders Yardley at the weekend.

With two sides promoted, the title is now out of the Bromsgrove Road side's reach and promotion rivals Rugeley are in a commanding position to claim the second spot.

Rugeley beat Market Drayton 2-1 to go second, a point ahead of Redditch with a game in hand.

The situation is complicated by the pre-season withdrawal of Wombourne which prompted league officials to decide to award 0-0 draws for the now-redundant fixtures.

Rugeley's last two games are against the leaders and Stafford - tough fixtures but the chance to bank the three points they need to secure promotion courtesy of their healthy goal difference.

Redditch have only the Bromsgrove match left because their other 'fixture' is a 0-0 draw against Wombourne.

So Hiles' troops must beat their neighbours to finish on 29 points and hope Rugeley pick up no more than two points from their last two games.

Hiles hopes to field an unchanged side for Saturday's home game (1.30pm start).
