TWO goals in the first 12 minutes ended Fairfield Villa's interest in the Smedley Crooke Cup as they lost 3-0 at Northfield Town in the quarter-finals.
In their first loss of 2003, Villa were one down after ten minutes when a defensive mistake allowed Dean Meyrick to score from the edge of the penalty area. Two minutes later Colin Tandy scored with a header from close range.
Villa's misery continued on the half hour mark when goalkeeper Malcolm Barnes allowed a weak free-kick from Mike Vaughan to go through his hands for Northfield's third.
Phil Upton headed against the bar with Villa's best chance two minutes before half time.
In the second half Cliff Hughes' side put Northfield under pressure but failed to create any clear chances, the closest being Whitlock's header wide with the goal at his mercy 15 minutes from time.
Fairfield entertain Burntwood Town this Saturday (2.45pm).
