THERE were 39 Starlets Veterans out last Tuesday taking part in their latest Winter League event at Woodlands View's Barley and Hay pools.
Top spot went to Brian Hill (Stourport) who ledgered pinkies at Barley peg 21 for 19-14-0 of small Carp and Tench. Albert Putnam (Weoley Castle) was second with 16-1-0 and third, Fred Austin (Oldbury), with 15-10-0.
On Wednesday, the Astwood Fisheries Buddleia pool open was won by Bob Brown (Astwood) by short pole fishing corn at peg 53 for 63-7-0 of Carp. Second was Rob Francis (Droitwich Angling Centre) with 42-10-0 and third, Steve Darby's (Kings Oak) 30-12-0.
At Moorlands Farm's Meadow pool open, David James (Trabucco) took a brilliant winter catch of Carp of 86-6-0 by alternating pole and waggler with corn and pellets at peg 54. Runner-up Paul Little (A and D Lock) had 59-9-0 while Ian Chadwick (West Midlands) took 32-3-0 for third.
Moorlands Farm's Thursday costcutter open was won by Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) with a pole and corn catch of 42-10-0 from Moors pool peg six. James (Trabucco) had to settle for second with 32-14-0. Pete Short (Midland Leisure) took for 25-0-0 second.
The KH Veterans were also at Moorlands Farm and it was Bill Drew (Bewdley) who showed the way on Bank pool peg 25 where he pole fished maggots for a mixed 19-9-0 catch. Second was Mick Taylor (Northfield) with 16-8-0.
Saturday saw round three of the Redditch Federation Sensas UK Winter League. Leading the individual stakes was Northfield top rod Steve Marke (Ovation Leisure) who pole fished Bloodworm and Joker at peg 29 below the yacht club to take 3-4-3 of mainly Perch. Dave Jackson (Sensas Dams and Lock Blue) was second with 2-12-0.
The top four man team were DGL Black with 18 points; Sensas Dams and Lock Blue 29; Harris MG 30.
Overall Harris MG lead with 14; Sensas Dams and Lock Blue and Middy Team Central both on 20.
At Woodlands View, the Deans pool open was won by Gary Smith (Woodlands) with a pole corn and maggot catch of 27-2-0 from peg 47. Bert Humphries (Woodlands) followed with 21-12-0.
The 12th and final round of the Moorlands Farm Winter League saw the VDE Top Four's team clinch the title with a 21 point total and collect £600 in the process. Shakespeare were second with 26 and £400; Trabucco third on 32 and £300. Wayne Mellings (Odds & Sods) led the individual field with a pole corn and pellet catch 51-5-0, from Meadow pool peg 16 with Pete Whitehouse (Wesson) in second with 46-10-0.
The Moorlands Farm and Hallcroft Fisheries link peg big money prize of £2,000 went into the pocket of Rubery angler Albert Jones (CSM) when he drew Island pool peg 27 and put together a winning 28-6-0 of Carp taken with pole and corn. Second place went to Mal Talbot (Kamasan) with 26-6-0 and third to John Newton's (Bromsgrove) 23-4-0.
Kings Norton AS held its fourth and penultimate round of the Individual Winter League on the River Alne.
As with previous rounds, a single Barbel produced the winner and John Blakemore (Chaddesley) found a sample weighing in at 6-2-12 for victory, taken with stick float and maggots from peg 11. John Walker (Bromsgrove), who was third, leads the league series.
The Woodlands View Deans pool open was headed by Dean Cherrington (Sensas Midland Match) with a pole corn and maggot catch of 44-6-0 from peg 37. Team mate Matt Tranter was second with 31-10-0.
Mark Roberson (Droitwich Angling Centre) won the Astwood Fisheries Buddleia pool open with a pole and corn catch of 47-10-8 from peg 86. Ivan Leight (National Standard) took 41-10-0 for second.
Round Five of the Birmingham Civil Service Winter League took place on the Grand Union Canal at Bakers Lane, in Knowle.
Paul Woods (Sheldon) fished Bloodworm and Joker at peg 115 for a Perch and Roach catch of 3-6-0. Barry Price (Hall Green) was second with 2-13-4. Joint league leaders are Barry Price and Darren Mills with 12 points.
