I FIND it rather rich that, as it was Worcester City Council which allowed the name "Lychgate" to become synonymous with a dreadful concrete monstrosity in the1960s, its members should now feel outraged and astonished that anyone should try to get rid of this association.
The name Cathedral Plaza, while perhaps not the most original of names, does at least have an upbeat and airy feel to it which probably has more in common with a modern glass and tiled shopping centre than Lychgate has with an awful grey concrete helter-skelter.
Having already destroyed the original being of Lychgate, let's move on and give this undervalued end of the city something to be proud of.
