Youngsters at Chawson First School, in Wych Road, have been learning about the essential ingredients required and began perfecting their cooking technique last Thursday.
Shrove Tuesday, which is followed by Ash Wednesday, heralds the beginning of fasting in Lent.
Traditionally, a feast of pancakes used up supplies of fat, milk and eggs which are forbidden during Lent.
