THE boss of a Spa taxi firm is driving his fleet towards a greener future and away from costly congestion charges.

Blue Door Logistics now boasts an environmentally friendly vehicle that runs on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

It has made the firm's silver Vauxhall Vectra cheaper to run and it emits lower levels of poisonous pollution than petrol and diesel fuelled cars.

Benefits of the eco-friendly fuel have been recognised by London's transport chiefs who agreed that LPG cars should not pay the new £5 toll to enter the heart of Britain's capital.

Blue Door, based at Berry Hill Industrial Estate is proud of its efforts to save the planet and would like to introduce more LPG vehicles.

Boss Paul Rudge said: "It's a great option for us and could be the way of the future for many motorists.

"I'm pleased we are reducing pollution and I think the vehicle could save us money if more and more areas choose to introduce town tolls."

Taxi driver Graham Kenny enjoys being behind the wheel of the custom built Vectra and said passengers rarely realise that it runs on gas.

"It costs £17 to fill the tank and you can do about 180 miles.

"That is definitely more cost effective than other cars and it's a wonderful drive," he told the Advertiser.

He fills up at Upton Warren's Shell garage.

The LPG Association said more and more motorists are opting for gas.

Older cars can be converted to gas and many motor manufacturers are beginning to produce LPG models in their new ranges.

n On the garage forecourt a litre of LPG is about 38p - roughly half the price of petrol. But a litre will only take you about three-quarters the distance as a litre of petrol.
