AN innovative recycling scheme, involving three different coloured bin bags, has been branded confusing by a Droitwich Spa tenants' representative.

Wychavon Tenants' Association president, John Cook, said some elderly residents are struggling with the new scheme which gives new life to household waste.

Residents are asked to separate re-usable rubbish into purple and clear bags, which are taken on alternative weeks, along with the weekly collection of black bin bags.

Mr Cook, of Chawson, said: "While I am all for going green and recycling our waste, this scheme is too complicated.

"Tenants are getting muddled about which bags to use and they are having to store some rubbish for up to two weeks which is a problem.

"If they have indoor bins, it smells and if they keep bins outside, they become overflowing and unsightly.

"It is also creating a lots of extra work for the refuse collectors."He believes all sacks should be collected on the same day.

Wychavon District Council aimed to keep the new system clear and uncomplicated and is offering to visit confused householders.

The authority's client services manager, Sharon Casswell, told the Advertiser: "We have tried to keep the scheme as simple as possible with easy to follow instructions.

"But any residents or organisations who are having difficulty getting to grips with it are welcome to give us a call. We are willing to come and visit groups or give advice over the phone."
