BROMSGROVE RFC First XV secured two more vital points in the quest for Midlands One survival with a 23-15 victory over Hinckley.

The Finstall Park side, who have now completed their first double of the season after winning at Hinckley in September, are still a long way from guaranteed safety but are starting to show what they are capable of.

Coach David Stout said: "We have always said when we have the right players we can beat any teams in the league. Some people might have been beginning to think we were talking rubbish but the proof is there now.

"There's no division in the team and it helps enormously when you don't get disruption and we have been able to play the same 15 for a few weeks."

Stout's side made their intentions clear from the start. Straight from the kick-off, some determined forward play led to some great inter-passing for Ben Eason to cruise in under the posts for the first score. The ever-reliable Matt Birch added the conversion.

Hinckley then clawed their way back into the match with Tom Bennett snatching a try for the visitors. And the visitors soon took the lead when Dave Mazeratta went in for Hinckley's second try of the afternoon.

But this lead was cancelled out by an excellently struck penalty goal from Birch, ensuring the teams were level 10-10 at the interval.

Bromsgrove started the second half the stronger of the two teams and an early Birch penalty gave them the lead once more.

Lee Wainwright then went over for a try, converted by Birch before the fly half added a further three points to his tally.

Hinckley did manage a consolation try in the dying seconds when Paul Roberts went over but it was all to no avail as Bromsgrove finished worthy winners.

Bromsgrove travel to Leicester Lions this Saturday.
