A NEW College lecturer who battled against leukaemia has had his legs waxed as part of a fund-raising mission to enable him to represent Great Britain in the World Transplant Games.

Sports therapy lecturer Steve Nyland, who received a bone marrow transplant four years ago, hopes to compete in the 5km cycle time trial and 20km road race at the games in France later this year.

The 26-year-old wants to support and raise awareness of the transplant games and transplant donation to give hope and inspiration to others who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

The leg wax stripping, which took place yesterday, will also reduce the risk of infection should Mr Nyland receive any cuts or grazes during the event.
