A DISABLED man who has always wanted to learn self-defence has had his wish granted after reading the Evening News.

Twenty-seven-year-old Martin Bullock, who has spina bifida, read that martial arts expert Peter Lewis planned to hold a one-off self-defence class for people with physical disabilities.

Although the class isn't due to be held until the end of this month, Mr Lewis invited Mr Bullock along to one of his regular sessions at The Green Centre, Dines Green, Worcester.

"The class went well. In this day and age you never know when you're going to need self-defence, and going to the class was very good exercise," said Mr Bullock, of Teme Crescent, Droitwich.

"From an early age I've always wanted to learn self-defence."

The Evening News reported last month that Mr Lewis, a fifth dan black belt, was planning to hold the session on Saturday, March 29.

Mr Lewis, aged 43, said Worcester City Council had also contacted him as a result of the Evening News article.

"The council wants to include my details on their database, in case they need me to work with any groups of disabled people," he said.

"Social services in Bromsgrove also want to book me for an awareness lecture with disabled people."

Mr Lewis, of Warndon Villages, said he was putting together a disabled self-defence website.

"It will give advice on self-defence for disabled people as well useful contacts," he said.

The address will be www.disableddefence.co.uk
