RADIO stars of the future have proved a hit as a youth-based radio station enjoyed its first few days live on air.

Aimed at those under 25, Youthcomm Radio can now be heard on 105.2FM, until the end of the month.

And Youthcomm Radio co-ordinator Chris Fox is thrilled with the work of his inexperienced DJs, following the station going on air at the start of the week.

"It's going really well," he said. "They have taken time to prepare features, and schools in particular have really taken it on board."

The 24-hour radio station, based at the City Youth Centre, in Spring Gardens, consists of everything from gig guides and reviews, discussions on topical issues such as Iraq and even comedy sketches.

"They are allowed quite a lot of freedom to play what music they like - it's their show," said Mr Fox.

"It's been a big success so far and it's been really good to hear the response from people who have phoned in."

And 12 students from Droitwich Spa High School are set to make their radio debut, between Monday 17 and Friday, March 21, on the station.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for these students," said Margaret Brown, citizenship co-ordinator at the school. "It will give them a real head start if any of them want to try and make progress in the media."
