PAST pupils of one of Worcester's independent schools are being asked to dig deep and find old photos and other memorable items.

Springfield, Alice Ottley's Junior School, is celebrating its golden jubilee of moving to its current site in Britannia Square.

As part of the celebrations, a book being compiled and an exhibition of photographs is being mounted.

But first, the school wants to hear from past pupils who might have anything to contribute.

"It's nice for the current girls to know what school life was like many years ago," said headmistress Judith Layfield.

"We've been quite successful so far with old girls visiting the school. But anyone else who hasn't yet heard about our celebration is welcome to contribute."

Among the items submitted so far are stories of what the education system was like, as well as the changes in the building.

Springfield moved into the Georgian house in 1953 after previously being based at the senior school's site on The Tything.

The building was formerly a boarding house for The Alice Ottley School before the war, when it was used as a maternity unit and nursing home.

"As well as the book and exhibition we're using the Golden Jubilee as a way to teach the girls about the history of the area," said Ms Layfield.

Former headmistresses, Ina Hawley and Margaret Cull, have also been lending a hand with the project, which will culminate in a Golden Jubilee day in April.

There will be a celebration lunch for the current girls, along with a scavenger hunt and magic show. Old girls are being invited to a tea party.
