MALVERN Hills District Council is hailing the success of a long-term budget plan which has enabled it to make this year's council tax increase one of the smallest in the country.
The final stage of a three-year financial strategy to curb spending and ensure the council has at least £1m in reserve was put in place by this week's council meeting when the authority voted to increase council tax by four per cent.
Total council tax bills will be much more than this as the district also has to collect council tax for the county council, police authority, parish and town councils and the Malvern Hills Conservators.
The average council tax for the year for a Band D house will be just over £1,000.
The council will now be working during the coming months to devise a new strategy to cover the coming three years.
