A rare and valuable 12th century holy water stoop, used as a bird bath, has been stolen from a garden in the Ludlow area. Thieves also took an antique stackstone worth about £500.
Fearing repercussions, the owner 'Mrs Barker', did not want to reveal her full name or address.
She said: "Until recently I had no idea what it was or it's historic value and used it as a bird bath. It has huge sentimental value because it belonged to my mother who, like me, enjoyed working in the garden. However, I do have photographs of the stoop. The stackstone, a flat top mushroom, was set 12 inches into the ground and had a plant growing on top of it. The thieves had to dig deep to lift it out."
