POLICE kept a close watch on a group of travellers who moved into Kidderminster for a family wedding over the weekend.
About 40 caravans with families and four horses parked on the unused Romwire site in Zortech Avenue, off Stourport Road, sparking calls to police from nearby residents. caravans and travellers on the Romwire site.
The police met with the travellers and the managing director of the tyre bead firm and reached an agreement over how long they could stay.
"There was an agreement between those involved and everyone honoured their part of it," said Chief Insp Alan Baldwin, in charge of the operation to monitor the area after the travellers moved in last Wednesday.
"We provided reassurance to the travellers and to the people living in the area and nothing criminal happened." one of the horses grazing on the roadside verge.
He said the only incident was minor damage to locks on the double gates at the entrance to the site but this had not been directly linked to the arrival of the travellers.
A mobile security firm Romwire shares with other companies inspected the site after the travellers moved away on Sunday evening and cleared up a small amount of litter, he added.
