ONCE again a decision has been taken behind closed doors with regard to Linden Avenue, Kidderminster, without proper consultation of the residents who live in the immediate vicinity outside of the road.
This road is now to be closed to lorries - WHY?
According to the Highways Agency the road is more than adequate to accommodate heavy goods vehicles - the same as any other road in the area. Lorries drive on all of our roads - what's so different about Linden Avenue? What's going on?
Furthermore, a great deal of public money has been spent to create "bottlenecks" in the shape of footpath widening which blocks a section of the road at each end of this quiet avenue. This is a sheer waste of public resources and not what we pay taxes for.
Again it seems that this tiny minority of Linden Avenue residents have special powers and privilege over the rest of us, and have effectively claimed the road as "theirs" to do as they wish with it, regardless of the impact of gridlock at the Land Oak traffic lights.
Commonsense dictates that this quiet road should be designated as a traffic relief road.
As access to Merton Close is through Linden Avenue, it is to be hoped that we do not have a major accident on the stretch of railway line behind Merton Close or indeed any accident that warrants ambulance or fire service. Such "bottleneck" delays can cost lives.
