THE situation regarding waste collection and disposal goes from bad to worse.

The recent decision by Conservative-controlled Worcestershire County Council to send 200,000 tonnes of waste a year for burning in north London, is a sad indictment of county policy.

Let us be clear. County has the job of getting rid of county waste, but in Wyre Forest it is the district council that has to collect it.

This district and the county have deplorable records at carrying out their duty with regard to recycling.

Only now does the district's Health Concern group offer that prospect, but what a mistake to go for a two-weekly wheelie-bin collection.

Meanwhile, county is still in deep shock over our refusal and rejection of the application for an incinerator at the Kidderminster sugar beet site.

The Conservatives have failed to pursue an environmentally friendly county disposal system with any real enthusiasm, and allowed Severn Waste to burn their waste, instead of recyling the majority.

As for Health Concern, their policy is lacking any real determination to bring us up to the national average of recycling.
