Littleton 3,
Droitwich Spa 1
LITTLETON revived their Midland Combination promotion hopes with last Saturday's hard fought victory against fellow contenders.
Although securing the title now appears to be beyond their reach - Barnt Green are one point ahead with three games in hand - Littleton moved above Droitwich into second place and still have a game in hand.
The visitors made the early running and took the lead after ten minutes with a spectacular goal by the division's leading scorer Andy Kernahan.
He executed a perfect bicycle kick from 15 yards that flew past a startled Adam Moss in Littleton's goal before he could move!
Droitwich continued to press and Moss was forced to make a full length save at the foot of the post and then was at full stretch to stop a powerful drive.
Littleton gradually pulled themselves together and went close when Simon Brain hit a half-volley which the keeper touched on to the inside of a post and was then grateful that the rebound flew straight back into his arms.
This seemed to settle Littleton and they began to increase their pressure and drew level on the stroke of half-time.
Darren Reeves rolled the ball along the edge of the penalty area to Phil Haines whose precise shot just eluded the keeper.
The second half saw Littleton take a much firmer grip with defenders Robbie Harris, Matt Cotton and Matt Edwards keeping tight control and limiting Droitwich to rare attacks.
Littleton took the lead on 55 minutes when Robert Hands, who had a good game on the right, drove a powerful cross-shot across the box which was deflected past his own keeper by a defender.
The third goal came 15 minutes from time when a clever ball inside the full back from Brain set up Hands, whose skimming low shot from 12 yards beat the keeper.
The game was sponsored by Jack Harrison.
Littleton visit local rivals Bretforton OB on Saturday in the semi-final of the Evesham Hospital Junior Cup (2.30pm).
