A GOOD congregation welcomed Mrs Cindy Proctor, reader, and her husband to the parish church of St James, Staunton when Mrs Proctor conducted the family service of morning worship and gave the address. The lessons were read by Nigel Smith and the intercessions were led by Ursula Groves-Smith, when the family of Mr Jim Barclay senior were remembered in their sad loss. The offertory was taken by Ben Cotton and the organist was Margaret Riley.
Just as the conifers in Corse and Staunton playing fields were becoming established, between 20 and 30 have been pulled up. It was obviously by someone who cannot appreciate they were planted with thought and care to enhance the surroundings until in their stupidity they destroyed their efforts. It is quite sickening. We in our village are so fortunate to have a committee with men willing to devote a lot of their own time and energy in keeping the playing fields to such a high standard for everyone to enjoy and all done entirely voluntarily. If you know or hear of who was responsible, a £25 reward is being offered if the culprits are found - ring Charles Hulls on (01452) 700474.
