RANGERS travelled to Ledbury on Saturday and came away with a comfortable 3-1 victory.

LEDBURY TOWN RES 1, MALVERN RANGERS 3

This completed the double over the young Ledbury side, having won 1-0 in September.

Ranger have now collected ten points from their last five fixtures, a far cry from the previous five points collected from 16 fixtures.

Rangers' intent was shown in the first minute when Simon Barnett played the ball square to Simon Rea who had more time than he probably imagined as he shot over the bar.

However the breakthrough wasn't long in coming when, after five minutes, Tim Clarke played a good ball through to Simon Barnett. He was thwarted by keeper Andy Smith but the ball came out to the edge of the box, where Simon Brookes coolly stroked it into the far corner.

Rangers' advantage was extended after 20 minutes when, from the second of two Simon Rea corners, Mark Tipton headed home at the far post. Ledbury came more into the game at this stage and on 25 minutes, following good Ledbury pressure, the ball was cleared. With five minutes of the half remaining a quick Ledbury free kick ended up in the side netting.

The home side reduced the arrears five minutes into the second half when, following a left wing corner, the ball wasn't cleared fully. When it came back into the box, Ross Sanders only succeeded in pushing it into the path of a Ledbury player, who scored with ease from close range. Rangers restored their two goal advantage 13 minutes into the half when Simon Barnett's shot was parried by Andy Smith straight to Simon Brookes, who scored into the roof of the net.

Ledbury's Neil Gardiner had a good opportunity to reduce arrears but he shot over the bar. With 15 minutes remaining Ledbury keeper Andy Smith and Rangers' Simon Brookes were red carded.

Men of the match were Simon Brookes, Steve Hodges, Simon Rea and Mark Tipton.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Malvern Rangers, sponsored by Willie Thornes Snooker Club, travel to Hereford for a Division One South League cup fixture against league leaders Hinton, kick off 2.45pm, players to meet Brooklyn Motors 1.15pm.
