THE Soccer Site Malvern League Senior Cup Final will be contested by Club AC 30 and Bull Allstars although both clubs were made to work hard by their opponents before eventually triumphing.
Current cup holders AC 30 must have expected a fairly comfortable passage against Eeore, who are eight places below them in the league. It turned out to be far from that with AC 30 only going through by courtesy of a single own goal. Eeore continued their recent good form that belied their lowly position. Their back four keeping the free scoring AC 30 forwards, who had netted 84 league goals this season, at bay and when they did get past they found the home keeper in excellent form. Despite conceding the own goal as the result of an unlucky bounce and rebound Eeore fought on to the end and went down gallantly.
The other semi-final was a very hard fought affair with the young home side Worcester Juniors fighting back twice to equalise before eventually going down 2-4 to league leaders Bull Allstars.
In an injury ridden first half the only goal went to Bull Allstars when Chris Stone was on hand to net following a corner. Worcester Juniors' Matthew Loynes went on a couple of good runs but in both cases his final effort went narrowly wide. Worcester Juniors eventually equalised early in the second half when Jamie Lawrence fired the ball home. Play went from end to end before Bull Allstars regained the lead when Jamie James was in the right place to convert a chance. Worcester Juniors equalised for a second time following the award of an indirect free kick in the Bull Allstars penalty area, which also resulted in Bull Allstars being reduced to 10 men. The ball was touched to Shaun Chadwick who crashed the ball home. Unfortunately his delight turned to anguish a few minutes later when he was caught in possession and a quick break by Bull Allstars saw Jamie Gladwin net to regain the lead. The same player was on hand to score again a few minutes later to seal an Allstars victory.
The President's Cup second round match between Kempsey United Reserves and Fromes Hill had to be abandoned in the 35th minute when Fromes Hill's Nigel Dix sustained a back injury which meant he could not be moved off the pitch until the arrival of an ambulance. This took a considerable time to arrive and then his transfer to the ambulance was very slow because of the care being taken. Referee Kirk Denton and both teams decided the sensible option was to abandon the game. At the time Kempsey were leading 1-0 following a second minute goal by Steven Frear.
Nigel Dix spent the night in hospital with torn lumbar muscles but should make a complete recovery.
In The Soccer Site Malvern League Division One both Morgan Aero 8 and Green Dragon took advantage of leaders Bull Allstars' involvement in the cup to make up ground with convincing wins.
Brewery put up a fine fight against Morgan Aero 8 before finally going down 2-6. Aero 8's early lead was cancelled out by a Gavin Lock penalty and, following Aero 8 regaining the lead, Dean Kibble was on hand to equalise again. Following this Aero 8 proved too strong and added a further four goals. Aero 8's scorers were Michael Griffin, Andy Noon (two) and a Richard Bird hat-trick.
Second-placed Talbot Head were bought down to earth when visitors Green Dragon scored eight times without reply. Green Dragon's scorers were Matt Beale, Craig Turnbill and Jason Westmacott, all two each, and Stuart Graham and Darren Gwynne.
The only other Division One game saw St Peters go close to their first point of the season when Dynamo Ledbury just beat them 3-2. Giving a vastly improved display, which caught Dynamo by surprise, St Peters twice fought back to equalise before conceding the winner in the 70th minute. Their first equaliser following a Matt Williams goal for Dynamo was by Mark Townsend. Their second equaliser, from Joby Downing goal, was disputed, with Mark Falconer claiming the goal. But with his team mates and Dynamo crediting it to a Simon Watkins own goal. The Dynamo winner was scored by John Walker.
The only game played in the U18 Division, following the postponement of Barnards Green Juniors versus Battledown Saracens due to a waterlogged pitch, saw Hereford Lads Club maintain their unbeaten record with an 8-1 victory over Bromsgrove Town. Their scorers were Luke Herderschee (two), Stuart Lawrence, Chris Mortlock, John Buchanon, Tom Mclean, Andy King and an own goal, the response from James Alton.
