A COUNCIL Tax rise of four per cent was approved this week by Malvern Hills District Council.
The rise is equivalent to an increase of £4.03, to £104.79, for an average band D property.
However, the total tax bill will be a lot higher, because of precepts from Worcestershire County Council, West Mercia Police Authority, parish and town councils and, in some parishes, Malvern Hills Conservators.
Band D householders in Malvern will be paying £1,149.38 in 2003/4. Of that, £822 will go to the county, £119.80 to the police, £104.79 to the district, £23.97 to Malvern Hills Conservators and £78.82 to the town council. The police authority increased its precept by 12.9 per cent and the county council by 12.97 per cent.
Stephen Leese, MHDC's assistant chief executive, said of the rise: "It is not a lot when you consider we have to run things like the housing service, benefits, development planning, tourism promotion, recycling and providing support for Malvern Theatres and the local economy."
