THE bell at Welland Primary School rang out again for the first time in 80 years.
A £900 modern refurbishment has been carried, courtesy of funding from the village Jubilee Committee, now known as the Friends of Little Malvern and Welland.
The system features an electronic clapper instead of the old-fashioned pulley system. The bell will be used to mark the start and finish of the school day.
On Tuesday, the oldest man in Welland, Raymond Ridley, 92, who attended the school, together with the school's youngest pupil, Hannah Hughes, four, joined with guests to ring in the new.
Roger Cousins, a member of the Friends group, said the conclusion of the project was really gratifying.
"It's something that hasn't worked for 80 years and is now working in a modern way and I hope the school can get some benefit out of it," he said.
Headteacher Gill Callaghan said: "It's nice to re-establish that connection with the past.
"It was nice to see a mix of older and younger members of the village together."
