BROMSGROVE Rovers are still coming to terms with Ashley Read's death ahead of their Dr Martens Western Division clash at Bedworth United tomorrow (3pm).
But joint manager Gary Hackett said they intended to draw strength from the positive outlook Read had on life which made him such a popular member of the Victoria Ground club.
Read, aged 19, died a week ago, four days after suffering serious head injuries in a car accident and tomorrow's match is Rovers' first action since then.
Flowers and written tributes have been lining the gates at the Victoria Ground since his death.
"We trained on Tuesday, had a positive session and blew a few cobwebs out and got a bit of frustration and anger out," said Hackett.
"It's a difficult time but we have to be positive and if there is one thing about Ashley it's that even at such a tender age he was incredibly positive and that's a good legacy to take on board.
"We're looking forward to playing tomorrow but we are still respectful of Ashley's memory and our thoughts remain very much with his family."
Rovers have slipped to third in the league but with second-placed Weston-super-Mare being held at home by Clevedon Town in midweek Hackett is still confident Rovers can secure a promotion slot.
"There is a long way to go and there will be plenty of chopping and changing between now and the end of the season," he added.
"We are going to try to be positive. We can score goals and we are going to try and win games, not sit behind the ball and be negative."
Ex-Worcester City winger Jamie Hyde has joined Rovers from Hampshire club Winchester.
Hyde was released by City manager John Barton last season after making more than 60 appearances for the St George's Lane club.
"I've seen him play and I know what he can and he adds extra competition for places," said Hackett.
Defender Mark Benbow is rated 50-50 for tomorrow's match after picking up a leg injury.
*Redditch United can cement a top six spot in the Dr Martens Western Division with victory at home to second bottom Swindon Supermarine tomorrow (3pm).
