CHANDOS Symphony Orchestra will be performing works by four composers at a concert in Malvern.

The first half of the concert is given over to three prolific and dynamic 20th Century composers.

Malcolm Arnold's Peterloo Overture is joined on the programme by Shostakovich's Moscow Cheryomushki Suite and Adams' Lollapalooza.

The second half will be given over to Sir Edward Elgar's Falstaff.

The concert will be performed on Sunday, March 16, at 7.45pm at The Forum, Malvern Theatres.

Chandos will be conducted by its music director Michael Lloyd, who is also the senior resident conductor at the English National Opera.

The leader will be Edward Bale, who is currently 1st violin with the orchestra of the English National Opera.

Chandos is a Malvern based amateur orchestra, whose members are drawn from across the region.

Under the guidance of Mr Lloyd, appointed music director and principal conductor in 1988, it has grown to around 90 musicians.

It gives three concerts a year, usually at The Forum, and holds a one day orchestral workshop, a strings day and the Chandos Young Musician Competition.

Its repertoire is drawn mainly from the major symphonic compositions of the 19th and 20th centuries, although not exclusively.

Tickets for the concert are £13, £10 and £8 (concessions available) from 01684 892277. For details on Chandos visit www.chandos.org .uk.
