THE iniquities of the ever-increasing Council Tax are being roundly condemned by some this year, but a look back at the Malvern Gazette 50 years ago shows that rising tax levels is nothing new.
Local rate is up by 1/8 but county increase is mainly responsible, was the headline on March 6.
Malvern Urban Council levied a rate of 23 shillings and sixpence in the pound, an increase of 1s 8d.
However, the council was quick to point out that Worcestershire County Council was responsible for all but tuppence of the rise.
