THE great and the good - and the glamorous - will descend on Stourport today for the mayor's annual charity ball.
Up to £1,000 raised from the event will be shared between Kemp Hospice and Wyre Forest Citizen's Advice Bureau.
Flight is the theme of the ball that usually attracts about 150 guests including past and present dignitaries as well as members of the public.
"This year is the centenary of the maiden flight of the Wright brothers and I've always been interested in aircraft," said Stourport mayor and former physics lecturer Don Giles.
The dcor and tickets will be specially themed and the band, which will play music from the 60s onward, are the Retro Flyers.
"They have got a good reputation," added Mr Giles. "It should be an enjoyable evening."
Town businesses have donated prizes - including a television and a bottle of Scotch - for the raffle and tombola.
Tickets are still available for the Civic Centre event, which gets underway at 7pm.
For further information contact the mayor's office on 01299 877214.
