MANAGER John Barton is still on the lookout for a striker to boost his side's goalscoring options.

The Worcester City boss feels that big wins over Folkestone, Chelmsford and Hastings which accounted for 15 goals, have masked an inability to hit the net with sufficient frequency.

While not anticipating too many changes to his squad over the summer, Barton admits if the right players become available he will move in for them and that includes a striker.

"Our goals for column has improved but to some extent the six goals against Folkestone, five against Chelmsford and four against Hastings have done that and to some degree papered over the cracks," said Barton.

During a seven- match stretch from October 12 to November 9 City managed just two goals which both came in the 2-0 win against Cambridge City and have failed to hit the net during 14 league and cup games throughout the season to date.

City have also drawn 12 matches, several of

which they should have turned into victories but failed to break down defences.

Darren Middleton and Adam Webster have 14 goals each with Webster close to reaching the target of between 15 and 17 set by Barton.

Overall Barton is pleased with the squad he has assembled but has been without the likes of Mark Shail, David Foy, Stewart Hadley, John Snape, Mark Owen and Marc Burrow for large chunks of the season.

The St George's Lane boss can only dream of having them all fit at the same time but with Shail, Burrow and Hadley back in action and Foy and Owen not far off, Barton is a step closer to seeing that become a reality.

"When everyone is available it's going to be quite interesting," said Barton.

"Obviously if better players become available you have to try and bring them in."

Snape, who had groin surgery on Tuesday, still harbours hopes of being involved before the end of the season.
