A MOTHER claims she has been forced to care for her severely disabled son after he was turned out of his residential home without explanation.
Wendy Nutt was "shattered" when she was told cerebral palsy sufferer Daniel could no longer stay at Exbury Place, in St Peter's, Worcester, where he has lived for a year.
Mrs Nutt is currently caring for her husband who is suffering from cancer. Now she must also single-handedly manage the needs of her 21-year-old son.
She was given the news when Daniel was discharged from a three-week stay in hospital, following treatment for a urine infection.
"After I picked Daniel up from the hospital yesterday, a nurse told me the home was refusing to take Daniel back'," said Mrs Nutt, aged 47, of Blackpole, Worcester. "I was stunned. We have no other option. We don't know which way to turn."
She admitted her son became "confused" while he was on strong antibiotics to fight the infection. He was admitted to hospital because the infection was not clearing.
But she said she had not been told why he could not return to the home.
"We don't know the reasons. Even the nurse at the hospital seemed shocked and disappointed.
"I took Daniel back to Exbury Place on Sunday, to re-acquaint him with it before he was discharged from hospital, and the staff made me feel like an alien from outer space.
"We didn't feel welcome at all. I'm devastated. My husband has been ill for 14 months and I need quality time with him. I need some answers."
The residential home is run by First Key for the SCOPE national charity, which supports people with cerebral palsy.
Spokesman Christina McGill denied Daniel had been "kicked out".
A meeting was planned between SCOPE, Worcestershire Royal Hospital and social services, to "decide how best to meet Daniel's needs".
"I can't discuss details of our service-users, but Daniel still has a place at this time," she said.
"Our primary concern is to make sure the needs of our service-users are met. We need a meeting to make sure we can service his precise needs."
The date of the meeting had yet to be confirmed.
