TWO Worcester men have been convicted of being involved in drug dealing on what a judge described as "overwhelming evidence."

At the end of a three day trial, a jury took just three hours to decide that John Steade and Jason Grosvenor-Davies were guilty of having heroin intending to supply it to other people.

Grosvenor-Davies, aged 29, of Lowesmoor, and Steade, 28, of Penhill Crescent, St John's, who had pleaded not guilty were arrested on January 17, last year at a flat in Mayfield Road, Worcester.

Grosvenor-Davies admitted possession of heroin. Steade denied a similar charge but was convicted.

Judge Michael Mott granted bail for the preparation of pre-sentence reports.

The prosecution alleged that a bundle of drugs was thrown out of the window of the flat when drug squad detectives arrived.

Brett Stevenson, prosecuting, said the drugs had been bought in Birmingham and the pair were working together to store and sell the drug.

Adam Western, for Grosvenor-Davies, said the small amount of heroin was consistent with personal use. He had been addicted at the time of the raid but since had been ridding himself of the habit.

Miss Naomi Gilchrist, for Steade, said he was not in the room when the drugs were thrown through the window. He had gone with Grosvenor-Davies to Birmingham because he had nothing else to do and did not realise he was buying drugs.

During the early stages of this case, an Evening News report said Grosvenor-Davies lived in Foxwell Street. In fact, his address is in Lowesmoor, Worcester. We are happy to make this clarification.
