POWERHOUSE Mark Gabey looks set to make his long-awaited comeback for Worcester Warriors against Plymouth Albion on Saturday.
The 19-stone forward, who broke his arm against Coventry at the start of January, will play some part in the National One clash at Sixways.
It is the latest piece of good news for Worcester after the recent return of David Officer while Tim Walsh, Gary Trueman, Dan Zaltzman, Craig Quinnell and Nnamdi Ezulike all look set to boost competition for places by declaring themselves fit.
But it is the return of Gabey which has delighted the club's director of rugby John Brain.
Shorn of key players for so long this season, Brain is beginning to see the light at the end of what must have seemed a never-ending tunnel.
"It's a big boost to have Mark back," said Brain.
"He is a key player for us and was playing very, very well before his injury in January.
"It is the same sort of boost that David Officer's return gave us because he is important to us.
"He is a physical presence and he will be a vital figure for us in the weeks ahead.
"The injury situation is looking better than it has for a long time, probably since November when we really started losing players.
"We know that we are without Chris Pearson, Ben Hinshelwood and Richard Bates but we hoped that for Saturday's game that we would have everybody else available. We are pretty close to that."
There are still question marks over Tim Walsh and Christian Evans who both have hamstring injuries.
Quinnell is expected to train today after having an injection in his knee while Trueman, Zaltzman and Ezulike have had the green light to take part in full training.
"Tim Walsh did a light session yesterday," added Brain. "He will take part in a full session today and we'll see how he comes through that.
"Christian Evans is still feeling the hamstring a little so we will have to see with him.
"Those two are the most doubtful at present to make Plymouth but we are not ruling them out.
"We are very pleased to be talking about good news on the injury front. It is positive for the club."
