THE multi-million pound contract between ASDA and Bromsgrove District Council was finally sealed last Wednesday.

The £10 million deal to give Bromsgrove its first multi-storey car park and extend the town centre ASDA by almost a third was signed by council bosses and a top ASDA executive.

But head of community safety and engineering John Moody has warned townsfolk that they will have to 'adjust their shopping methods' to cope with the lack of parking while Churchfields and Recreation Road North car parks are closed.

Churchfields car park closed on Monday and Recreation Road North car park is due to close on Monday, April 7.

The new scheme will mean 112 extra spaces in the multi storey car park but until it is finished, there will be around 100 less parking spaces in the town centre.

Mr Moody suggested shopping at quiet times during the week to minimise inconvenience.

The new multi-story puts an emphasis on security for shoppers following the council's liasion with West Mercia police.

It will include CCTV cameras and increased lighting, as well as parent and child parking facilities and the project should be completed in time for Christmas.

Corporate director and district secretary Bob Lewis stressed the recreation ground was remaining in the hands of the council and added: "Two new junior football pitches will be put on the recreation ground when work is complete."

ASDA head of property communication, Naomi Duggan said: "We want to thank Dennis Norton and all at the council who have worked so hard on this project."
