CRICKET connoisseurs will enjoy a new book written by local author Michael Baws from Little Hereford.

Triple Glory, published by Cricket Lore, is a chronological history of triple century makers from 1876 to 2000, and is certain to become a valuable amalgam of cricket literature.

From the Australian who scored a quarter of all his runs in a single innings, and an Indian who was denied a world record by the opposing princely captain, to the major who learned to bat from a book, scored a triple century and then went off to the war, this cricket-loving author tells it as it is, in an uncomplicated way, backed up by easily understood statistics.

Michael has watched cricket since his school days, spent a 10 minute walk away from the Sussex County Cricket Ground at Hove.

He claims that his skills as a spectator easily outshone his ability to stay at the wicket longer than an over.

A financial journalist with a national newspaper, he spent his spare time watching out for triple centuries, writing for Cricket Lore and waiting for Sussex to win the county championship. He shares membership of the Primary Club, open to anyone who has ever been out first ball, with Sir Donald Bradman.

Living so close to Worcester, Michael Bawes has joined Worcestershire CCC and is looking forward to enjoying his spectator sport at perhaps the most scenic ground in the country.

He is currently working on his next book for Tempus Publishing which is an illustrated record of bowlers who have taken 10 wickets in an innings. Triple Glory is available at Books Books Books in Tenbury Wells and Castle Bookshop in Ludlow.
