ENGLAND cricketer Ashley Giles has returned to Droitwich Spa after an early exit from the World Cup in South Africa.
Giles, who lives in the town, flew into Heathrow last Thursday with the England squad, after the side's failure to reach the Super Sixes stage of the ICC tournament.
The left-arm spin bowler took the wicket of Andy Symonds before bowling and catching Brad Hogg in the disappointing defeat to Australia. He also took catches from Matthew Hayden and Aussie captain Ricky Ponting off Andrew Caddick's bowling.
England's fate was ultimately sealed when rain forced the Pakistan-Zimbabwe match to be abandoned, a game Pakistan needed to win to give Giles and his team mates any chance of progression.
"We never really got started and suddenly we were going home," he said. "It's disappointing as it was my first World Cup. We had a golden opportunity against Australia but we only have ourselves to blame."
