PATIENTS are set to benefit from a new radio system adopted by Hereford and Worcester Ambulance Trust.
Airwave is a network specifically created for the emergency services which should enable the trust to maximise efficiency.
It is due to be introduced in the summer and features include automatic vehicle location so the control centre can direct and monitor its ambulance fleet, remote programming of existing in-vehicle satellite navigation systems to help crews find the most efficient route and in-vehicle data terminals which alert crews to emergencies.
Some ambulances will also be equipped with a machine that transmits electrocardiograms from the patient's side to hospital so drugs and equipment can be prepared in advance.
