OUR skittles team is off to a good start - two wins in the first two matches - we are so pleased!
Our secretary brought us up to date with other business, and then we were introduced to Hans Meereis. With the help of slides, our speaker told his story From East Germany to England. His early years as a boy in Langenbielau, were not easy. The children were asked to take used sugar bags to school to be used as writing paper. As an adult, Mr Meereis settled and married in England, where his father-in-law - a Birmingham City football player - helped him to shape his future. A return journey in 1990 to his place of birth, now called Belava, brought an absorbing evening to a close.
